It’s Fourth of July weekend, and we all should be out enjoying ourselves.

Recently I have been working on a new project and hopefully by the end of the month I will be finished. It is not really the most exciting video to be working on but I am working really hard on it and hopefully can get more projects.

Another way that I will be celebrating the fourth of July is by finally going more public and linking with various other websites. Lets light up the sky and this blog with fireworks!http://www.jpopasia.com/img/album-covers/1/2616-liar-4pjr.jpg

on other news, Spyair has come out with their new single and it has been addictive while studying my Kanji. check it out and maybe it can help energize you while you deal with Kanji.

today’s word of the day is pretty straightforward and comes from a project that I am working on right now.

無妻(むさい)- lacking talent or ability

Lesser-Panda Word of the Day 6/18

19 06 2011

Wow!!! It’s been a whole month since I have gotten a new word up. Dear sweet Lesser-Panda I need to give you a new word already. Let’s start by a word describing what I have been getting from some of you for not updating recently.

弱音(よわね)- complaints

If you guys also want to know how it sounds, it is also in Kana Nishino‘s new song Alright. Everybody should check it out because it’s got a pretty catchy tune.

Getting Back on the Horse

19 06 2011

It’s been about a week since my last post, and it has been mostly my own fault. I was finishing up my finals for the spring semester here and afterwards I went on a trip with my friend Arata to Las Vegas. This was of course all fun and everything but I lost track of time and stopped adding posts on my blog, and for that I apologize.

I’ll give a quick run-down of what’s going on with me and let’s see if we can track down this burn out together and find ways that we all ca

n get back up on each of our own horses.

First off my grades from the spring term came back and I was glad to see that I had gotten all A’s and B’s so that means that my grades won’t be holding me back from going to Japan in September and graduating in a year. I have been offered a small job with a fashion group looking for translations to be done. Later on when I get more things finished with them I will post some of it up and add links. And finally, in terms of this site I will start adding video’s here hopefully by the end of the summer! But until then I will be restarting word of the day.

Now on to the part of this post that can help you…

We all get tired and bored of doing studying and it is hard to keep our focus on anything especially if it has to be done every-friggin’-day. However, with a few simple steps I think we can turn it around and fix the problem.

The problem is in our head for the most part. It feels impossible to listen to stuff that we don’t understand for hours on end, and if you’re anything like me you tend to fall asleep when you do try to do stuff like that. So what we got to do is figure a way to trick ourselves into understanding it.

So let’s try to understand the vocabulary with music, listen to a full song of your favorite band once without studying then find the lyrics and pick out one word and try to remember it as best you can. Then listen to the same song again trying to pick out that one word every time it is said. Once you can do that, then find another word and do it again this time picking out both words, and on and on until you get the whole song. Only at the end should you find out any grammar points (keep in mind most music grammar is incomplete) and figure out what the song is talking about.

The great thing about this is that you can do this anywhere and at anytime, as long as you enjoy the music then the language should come naturally.

My getting back on the horse tip: close the stupid textbook you have been studying all year and pull out that iPod and start dancing instead.

Extra pointer: having your blood circulate while trying to learn a language increases the capability to remember, reading it aloud does as well, as does writing down the word. So try to do all three while learning from your music.

Finals

7 06 2011

So its finals week here at my University, sorry that it has been so long since my last post. After this week I will go back to regularly posting. until then this is a brief overview of what has been happening thus far…

So an update on my getting into Waseda, I got an email today saying that the acceptance letter will come mid-June. Argh, its taking forever! the main reason for it taking so long for the letter to get here is because of the problems that happened in Japan a couple months ago. I’m just glad that they are still letting me go, the students there at the time of the incident had to come back. If I were them I would be so pissed.

Another change is that I got a new Ipad 2 this weekend, its a lot more useful than I thought it would be which is good on multiple levels, there are several apps that I have found useful and luckily the American itunes store has a slightly wider selection of music from Asia which reduces the hassle of having to buy a Japanese gift card and then using it to buy a couple songs. either way I will be taking my new Ipad with me to Las Vegas next week. And since I will be in Las Vegas, if any of you are from around there please feel free to hit me up on here or my twitter and we can hit the casinos ^^b!

As for classes and summer plans; starting in two weeks I will take a summer long course in Korean. I know that this blog will mainly be about Japanese and my experiences there but I think because of my studying Korean at the moment I might add a couple post with korean in mind. especially revolving around Kpop.

feelin’ the pressure cooker

17 05 2011

So there is about four more months left until I head out to japan and I feel like I still have a ways to go with my studies. I of course want to be the best that I can be before I enter Waseda so then I can have more options with my classes as well as hopefully up my Japanese ability even more by being in the harder Japanese classes.

however, as of now I am feeling like I am not making it up to par. I have recently been working solely on vocabulary so then I can have more conversations, but it is still difficult and I don’t think the words are sticking as well as I want them too. Also my kanji reading ability has gone down a little since last month and I think starting tomorrow I will work on it more.

It is Monday and I guess that I have the Monday blues, I should just be happy that I am constantly learning and that being unsatisfied is a way of pushing myself farther.

But it still sucks!!!

菜食主義 (さいしょくしゅぎ)- vegetarianism!

or if you want to talk about someone who is vegetarian you can say:

菜食主義者(さいしょくしゅぎしゃ)-vegetarian

Lesser-panda’s eat a lot of bamboo, but that doesn’t mean they are vegetarian they also eat other types of smaller creatures! :D
